報(bào)道說，“完善科技經(jīng)費(fèi)監(jiān)管體系”的主要目的是“避免虛報(bào)開支、杜絕挪用公款和鋪張浪費(fèi)行為”。想必您已猜出，“虛報(bào)開支”相應(yīng)的英文表達(dá)是“expense
padding”。
Pad做動(dòng)詞時(shí)原意指：“to lengthen something （written or spoken） with extraneous
material（寫書面文章或做口頭表述時(shí)加些無關(guān)緊要的東西）”，文中的“虛報(bào)開支”是pad的引申意，如動(dòng)詞詞組：pad an expense
