“降級(jí)冥王星” 年度詞匯拔頭籌

很難給語(yǔ)言下個(gè)準(zhǔn)確的定義，但有一點(diǎn)可以肯定，語(yǔ)言不是一成不變的教科書(shū)。新年伊始，美國(guó)方言學(xué)會(huì)選定“plutoed”（由“冥王星降級(jí)”，引申為“被貶、被降級(jí)”）為美國(guó)2006年度詞匯。
看外電相關(guān)報(bào)道："Plutoed" was chosen 2006's Word of the Year by the American Dialect Society at its annual meeting Friday.
To "pluto" is "to demote or devalue someone or something," much like what happened to the former planet last year when the General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union decided Pluto didn't meet its definition of a planet.
報(bào)道指出，冥王星因在國(guó)際天文學(xué)協(xié)會(huì)大會(huì)上被認(rèn)為不符合行星標(biāo)準(zhǔn)而遭降級(jí)，名詞“Pluto”（冥王星）由此被語(yǔ)言學(xué)家賦予了動(dòng)詞涵義“降級(jí)、貶值”。相應(yīng)的，Pluto（降級(jí)、貶值）的過(guò)去分詞形式“Plutoed”則用來(lái)形容“被貶、被降級(jí)”。
看來(lái)，有失亦有得。冥王星雖在天文學(xué)界遭“降級(jí)”，卻不想“因禍得福”，贏得了語(yǔ)言學(xué)一席之地。
