Japan is known for churning out wacky products, and this selection doesn't disappoint.
Some, like the hairdryer which is powered by the wearer's footsteps, are plainly absurd and impractical, but amusing nonetheless.
Others, the baby's onesie which doubles up as a floor mop, for instance, are actually quite clever.
Gadget-lovers could be intrigued, too, by the machine the grates butter so it's easier to spread, or the automated fork twister which elevates the process of eating spaghetti.
Other curious contraptions include a sleeping bag you can walk around in and a portable stand on which to rest your weary head.
Here, we present a catalogue of Japanese inventions so bizarre, it's a wonder they ever made it to the manufacturing stage.

But why? Last but not least, an umbrella system which apparently gathers rainwater into a (not so) handy tank
